Fresh Mind

self portrait - reflection in a train window

Today I looked in the mirror
And what I saw was new
Not the wounds anymore
Not the past
But so many - infinite - possibilities.
Today…
Can I manage it this time?
Drop the bad habits
Step out of the spiral
Move forward
Just like this, without help,
If only it was as easy
As clear water on your face
Washing away the make up
And looking straight at yourself.
I really would like
To keep feeling this way
Always fresh and new…
There is no reason why
It shouldn’t work this time.
I just need to remember
How I felt today.

Sadness

self-portrait

Contemplating the stones
At the sole of my feet
They look blurrier and blurrier
As the tears invade me
The evening lights perfect
And the silence is deep
What on Earth should I do
With this sadness inside me?
As far as I remember
Even in my childhood
It was always there somewhere
the sadness inside me
I’d walk away from people
And observe from afar
Contemplating the sky
Trying to comprehend…
Who on Earth should I become
Despite the sadness inside?
I hide it in a laughter
I hide it in a smile.

Partir - Poem & Photo by Emilie Wood - 3 aout 2009

woman in sheets
Seule, oui. Mais vrai. Mais forte et vivante.

I came back to my old Brighton and found it fresh, alive and kicking, full of festival energy.
