4th April, Guatemala - The orphans come to the SUN

After getting all the authorizations ready for them, we managed to allow all the orphans in our ship, the Sun, for a fun day visiting, watching the show, and having lunch with us on the ship. If not much, it is nice to have been able to do something for them, something they will remember and maybe who will open up their eyes to a world of possibilities.

La Esperanza, Guatemala orphanage, 28th March

On March 28th, a small group of staff from the NCL Sun decided to go and visit a local orphanage in Guatemala (in Puerto Barrios, just a bit further than Santo Tomas) in order to help out in any way they could. Among us, a few photographers, some youth counsellors, and cast members.

“La Esperanza” is an orphanage with 35 children, from 9 months to age 20 (the one 20 year old girl there, Eliza, has a mental problem that makes her still dependent on the mission). They are not funded by the government at all and rely entirely on donations.

Here are a couple of the boys, asleep in a hot afternoon.

Here is Carlos, the youngest orphan, 9 months old, in the arms of Kelly, one of our youth counsellor….

Victor

Victor is one of the local guys in Cozumel, Mexico, who dresses up for us in the traditional Mayan warrior outfit for us, so we can take his photos with the passengers. He is such a great, funny, happy guy - I’m going to miss him a lot when we leave the Carribeans. On his arm, the Mayan Rain God is tatooed.
